Dick Sibley and Pete Orpin attended the Action Johne’s Group at Dairy UK last month. Processors collecting 77% of GB milk supply have signed up to taking their farmers through a process where they assess their Johne’s risks of entry and spread, define their status (30 cow targeted screen minimum) and assign one of the 6 control strategies defined by the Action Group. By 2017 it is likely to be a requirement that BCVA accredited trained vets will be required to approve that their clients have a robust JD program in place.

The Myhealthyherd program has been updated and revised to meet the needs of the National Johne’s Management Plan. The risk assessment module can be used as an excellent way of checking that farmers already committed to JD control are actually on track to reducing their prevalence. Practices signing up to Standard membership can use the myhealthyherd program to deliver a complete NJMP for their farmers for all their farmers as part of the membership fee.

The benefits of the MHH JD module are

  • Detailed risk assessment ensuring that all risks are carefully evaluated
  • Ability to create a prevalence prediction report for any farmer highlighting the future prevalence based on the 30 cow screen results and risk assessment
  • Create a Johne’s control plan which is double checked for robustness ensuring your plan will work
  • Ability to track and store lab results using the program
  • Access to the Johne’s Knowledge hub for client plan and member farmers
