In October 2017, there was a major review of the Dairy Red Tractor standards.
To avoid non-compliance with your health plan the key areas to focus on are:
- Ensuring a colostrum policy is in place for calves
- A credible review of farm records with due discussion of BVD and Johne’s control
- A recommendation that waste milk is not fed to calves
- A Biosecurity plan needs to be in place which is reviewed annually
- A collation of medicine use with particular emphasis on antibiotic use and a recommendations that CIA antibiotics are not defined for first line use.
- Improved management of carcase management
Myhealthyherd’s Health Planner has been updated to ensure health plans created using the tool remain compliant with new standards.
The main changes are:
- A new sub-category within Other Routine Management Procedures, containing questions on Medicines Reviews, Selective Dry Cow Therapy and Residues and Waste Milk
- A new question covering bio-security management within the Routine Preventative Management category
