Purchasing and selling of livestock involves risks. The potential to introduce infections which can spread between cattle is high especially if you don’t know enough about the levels of diseases in either your own herd or the one you are purchasing from. Infection can spread either way with healthy purchased stock being infected with a disease that you you did not realise was present in your herd or more commonly apparently healthy cattle that you have purchased “carrying” the infection inside them without obvious symptoms. The “trojan” cow is a real risk and experience has shown that many diseases can be spread this way ( BVD, Neospora, IBR, Lepto,TB etc)
