The BCVA are raising money for Send A Cow as part of their 50th Anniversary celebrations and current BCVA president, Andrew Cobner, has just completed the mammoth challenge of cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats. Many other events have been taking place, including cycling and walking from The Wash to Aberystwyth, kayaking Loch Ness and climbing the highest peak in Northern Ireland.

Past BCVA president and director of Myhealthyherd and Park Vet Group, Pete Orpin, took part in a family inclusive event with kids , non cyclists, cooks, bottle washers and cyclists of all shapes sizes and abilities – his report from the day is below!

Given the state of my push bike and the wish to include as many people of all ages and fitness we arranged a 50 miles for 50 years event with a team doing 50 miles individually and others doing the considerably harder challenge of the 17 mile circumnavigation of Rutland Water along bumpy tourist infested trails.

A large base camp was set up at Rutland Water with enough food to feed us all twice over. Some made tremendous sacrifices by celebrating the event in true style with a glass of Prosecco (rather than a bottle) and brought a crowd of well-wishers ( aged 3-12) with them to cheers us all on.

A truly great day.
