Home / News / New Red Tractor Dairy Standards Announced

Changes to the Red Tractor dairy standards, which come into force from 1 October, have now been published by Red Tractor.

Perhaps the most significant addition to the Herd Health Plan is the requirement for farms to demonstrate that they are managing Johne’s disease through the implementation of the National Johne’s Management Plan*.

The appropriate management strategy needs to be identified through a discussion with a BCVA Accredited Johne’s Veterinary Advisor taking into account:

  • Current prevalence of Johne’s on the farm
  • Biosecurity risk associated with the farm
  • Biocontainment risk associated with the farm
  • Resources
  • Aspiration of the farm

Consequently, a copy of the National Johne’s Management Plan Declaration, completed and signed by BCVA Accredited Johne’s Veterinary Advisor, must be available at the time of the annual review.

Myhealthyherd already includes a Red Tractor-compliant Health Planner module, which is easy to complete and update from year-to-year and a comprehensive NJMP module, which takes the farm from risk-assessment, through strategy setting to task generation.  Myhealthyherd members can access the Health Planner and NJMP Module for just £25 per annum per farm.

We believe that this makes it the simplest, most cost-effective way of remaining compliant with regulations, whilst adding genuine value in terms of disease control and prevention.

Full details of the Dairy updates to Red Tractor can be found on their website and have also published a standalone document to help explain the changes.
